The latest figures have been released by Visit Britain/Visit England in its Annual Review 2017. Once again, the results show that visitor attractions have seen a an overall increase in visitor numbers and visitor spend. Visitor Attractions in England reported an increase in visits of 2% and a revenue increase of 7%.
What does this mean for the visitor attraction sector?
Positive growth for visitor attractions is really great news. This growth trend is consistent with 2015 and 2016 data and should therefore be an encouragement to visitor attractions to invest into, and improve their visitor offering. Themed attractions including adventure play, indoor play and adventure golf are fantastic ways to attract more visitors and increase revenue.

The latest visitor attraction trends data published in August 2018 shows positive growth with attractions generally performing well in 2017. Despite factors such as Brexit, levels of overseas visitors remained stable. Interestingly, domestic holiday trips in England were up by 6% on the previous year. With the UK’s exit from the European Union, domestic holiday trips could increase further.
The annual review data shows that admission charges increased in 2017.
The positive increase in revenue trend was seen across Wildlife Attractions/Zoos, Gardens, Country Parks, Historic Houses & Castles, Leisure/Theme Parks and Farms. Rural sites reported the highest increase in gross revenue in 2017.
